HLF Children's CHurch Trail at St Margaret's Northam
CHILDREN FROM LOCAL SCHOOLS HELP LAUNCH A “CHILDREN’S TRAIL”
Friday 17th November 2017 found St Margaret’s Church Northam buzzing with children at the launch of the ‘Trail for Children'.

Watched by a number of guests, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Northam, Northam Town Councillors, Governors from local schools and committee members of NDDFAS (North Devon Decorative and Fine Arts Society), children from Kingsley School , Kingsley Prep School and St Margaret’s Junior School Northam, with accompanying adults,  were presented with clipboards, pencils and the ‘Trail’ sheet, and invited to experience following the Trail for the first time. They did so with great enthusiasm and interest.

Adults also joined in, going all round inside St Margaret’s to find the answers to a set of questions. The questions have been designed to encourage children and adults to see the many aspects of the architecture and furnishings of the building which often go unnoticed. The trail blazers were also finding out from their answers more of the history of St Margaret’s.

The Event was opened officially by the Mayor of Northam Town Council, Councillor Brading and the Chairman of NDDFAS, Mrs Pamela Selman, by together cutting a ribbon. The Trail was created by a Church team with the guidance and sponsorship of NDDFAS.

“It has been a joy to see how much the children have enjoyed following the Trail and learning more about St Margaret’s Church”, said the Rector, Revd Derek Arnold.  “We hope many more children will take part in future.”

The Heritage Lottery Fund has made a grant to St Margaret’s Church for the development phase of the roof project.

The Northern Devon Foodbank (Christian charity) provides at least 3 days supply of nutritionally balanced food to people in crisis. Just in February 2016 we distributed the equivalent of 7826 meals to people in Torridge and North Devon Districts (a 30% increase on February 2015).

During the past year our annual operating costs have risen from £25,000 to £35,000 whilst our income has dropped. Government grants to the Community Projects who have supported us has been discontinued and our biggest supporter (Tesco) is cutting their grant from about £7,500 to £5,000.

We are asking the churches and church members to raise some cash support preferably by regular giving. Please can you help? Contact Duncan or Toni on 01237 422243. Thank you.
